Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBIA), formerly known as Dum Dum Airport, is an international airport located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, serving the Kolkata metropolitan area. The airport is named after Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, a prominent leader in India's struggle for independence from British rule.

It is located approximately 17 km (11 mi) from the city center. The airport is a major hub for flights to and from East India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Southeast Asia. The airport is owned by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and is operated by the Kolkata Airport Development Limited (KADL).

Kolkata Airport covers domestic and international flights to and from cities across India, as well as cities in the Middle East, South East Asia, and Europe. Kolkata Airport is one of the busiest airports in India. It is a major hub for domestic and international air traffic in the Eastern India region and serves as the gateway to the city of Kolkata. It is the sixth busiest airport in India. It is a hub for Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet and serves as a gateway to the eastern part of the country. The airport offers both domestic and international flights to over 70 destinations, including Dhaka, Bangkok, Singapore, Dubai, Doha, London, New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and many more. Along with passenger services, Kolkata Airport also provides cargo operations, charter flights, and private jet services.

The airport has two terminals. The integrated terminal, named after Rabindranath Tagore, was opened in 2013 and serves both domestic and international flights. The airport can accommodate aircraft up to the size of an Airbus A380.

The airport is also equipped with two modern air traffic control (ATC) towers. The ATC system is capable of handling up to 120 aircraft movements per hour. The airport has a total of 78 check-in counters and 12 immigration counters. It also has 20 security check booths and 24 immigration check booths. It is also the first airport in the country to have a Common User Terminal Equipment (CUTE) system for processing passengers.

Incidents

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBIA) has seen a number of incidents over the years. In 2005, a Boeing 737 skidded off the runway while landing, resulting in the death of one passenger. In 2007, a SpiceJet aircraft overran the runway while taking off, resulting in the death of one passenger. In 2013, a SpiceJet aircraft was grounded after a bird strike during take-off. In 2017, an Air India Express flight crashed while attempting to land, resulting in the death of 61 people. In 2018, a Spice Jet aircraft overran the runway while taking off, resulting in the death of one passenger. In 2019, an Air India Express flight overran the runway while landing, resulting in the death of 18 people.
